A Hostel located in the desert.
The project is separated into two parts, Room design, and Hostel Design. First, my co-workers and I will design single rooms in plan view. Then, use the final plan view of the rooms to design a Hostel. The room that was assigned to me is the caretaker cottage.
Caretaker Cottage
The overall arrangement of the room basically serves for two biggest needs, surveillance, and living. There’s a very large scaled window that provides the amount of surveillance that caretakers might need. The arrangement of the bed and the plants provides privacy to two caretakers.
Hostel Design
The project is called dune. The design is to not only fit in the environment but also, bring out the best side of nature.
The building is elevated by this organized grid of columns, and the underbelly of the building creates the space under the building. The contrast between the organized column grid and irregular geometry of the underbelly is also one interesting thing about the design.
Final Physical Model
The physical model is made by museum board and plaster cladding. The reason for cladding is I want the model to match the overall tone of the desert and show the chunkiness and roughness that it is supposed to be.
